I would like to introduce you a new option for the gift in Taichung!

The “Wheel Pies”!!!   Dàpàn shāo  だいばんやき  大判燒

You must have the same question as I do!

What is “Wheel pies”?

Wheel pies (Japanese: だいばんやき) is a kind of Japanese snack.

It was popular during the middle of the Edo period in Japan.

It was introduced by Japan. We call it “Red Been Pie” in Taiwan.

You can see this kind of snacks in religious fairs, summer festivals,

and popular streets in Japan.

It’s a small snacks that you can eat it while you are hanging out in the festivals.

Note before the trip:

1. All the Wheel pies are made on site.It will take some take to wait.

   (Sometimes it will take over 30 minutes.)

   Half-hour parking space is not recommended.

2. Visited time for this trip is 11:00am.

    However, the popular Iced Wheel Pies only sell during the afternoon.

    I am so sad!!!!! My ice wheel pie….

3. Majority of the wheel pies are old for to go.

    There are less seats available in the store.

4. Buy 8 get 1 for free!!

   (The free one is the lowest price in these 8 wheel pies.)

5. If you come here for the first time,

    I strongly recommend the “Salted Egg Yolk with Taro”

    and “Red Been Wheel Pie”!

 Neat and clean store. It has enough space for people stand in line!

The store keeps creating new flavors,

maybe I will teste the special flavor next time when I visit!

I really like the making process.

The careful movement of making wheel pies cam make you feel soothing!

If you have a chance, you can come to see the making process.

These beautiful Japanese lanterns are so pretty!

I can understand why there are so many internet celebrities come to check in at this place!

You can see the sweet notice from the store on the wall of the pedestrian arcade.

If you teste it in a different temperature, you will get different feeling of the wheel pies!

Wheel pies can also be the snacks or breakfast.

Before you eat it, just put wheel pie into the oven,

it will taste as same as you just buy it!!

In temperature for 6 hours~

Tastes chewy as bread

Freeze in two days~

Heated by oven, the best choice for snacks and breakfast!

Look at these generous amount of filling! I am so hungry!!!

 I got my wheel pies finally!! Yay!!!

It has a pretty box. It won’t lose your face!

The flavors from left to right, above to down are:

1. sweet potatoes

2. matcha red been

3. walnut with coffee

4. pineapple

5. cream

6. cream with cranberry

7. kimchi with cheese

8. chocolate

9. salted egg yolk with taro

Every kind is so good!!

I would like to share the “salted egg yolk”!

Savory salted egg yolk and silky texture of taro

make me think of the Moon cake for the Moon Festival!

This is an amazing invention! Besides the salted egg yolk,

the traditional cream and chocolate are also delicious!

No matter you have the munchies or starving,

they always have various flavors for your option!

It’s a little frustrated that I didn’t get the iced wheel pies for this time…

Hope I can get it next time!! 

Let’s check the whole box again!

Cause I am going to eat them all! Haha!
